One of the most effective habits I’ve adopted as a Project Manager is the 1-3-1 problem-solving method.
It’s simple, but powerful:
👉 1 Problem
Clearly define the issue. No fluff, no blame—just the facts.
👉 3 Possible Solutions
Think through realistic options. This shows ownership and critical thinking.
👉 1 Recommended Approach
Make a call. Based on impact, risk, and feasibility—what do you think is best?

- Encourages accountability instead of escalation
- Builds confidence and decision-making skills
- Saves time for leadership by focusing conversations
- Transforms teams from problem reporters → problem solvers
In project environments—especially fast-moving or complex ones—this approach creates clarity and momentum.
Instead of:
❌ “We have an issue, what should we do?”
You get:
✅ “Here’s the issue, here are three options, and here’s what I recommend.”
